Fandom "Review": A Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo

Updated: May 31

( Unoffical ) Alternate Title: "Trolling Done RIGHT!"

  • [2018/03/22] EDIT: Added screen capture of book reviews into the screen capture gallery found in the middle of my "review". <3

  • [2018/04/04] EDIT: Added tweet by John Lithgow.

The book “A Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo” is a parody of Vice President Mike Pence's book "Marlon Bundo: A Day in the Life of the Vice President", which was organized by John Oliver through his show "Last Week Tonight" on HBO.

Though both books were released within one day of each other ( John Oliver's book was released on March 18th whiled the Vice President's was released March 19th ), there are key differences as John Oliver pointed out:

"Now, there are a few small differences between the two books. You’ll notice right away that our rabbit has a bowtie, so there’s that. Um. Also, our story is about Marlon Bundo falling in love with another boy rabbit because our Marlon Bundo is gay, just like the real Marlon Bundo."

"Last Week Tonight" Season 05 Episode 05

Much to John Oliver's surprise, the book was SOLD OUT by March 20th. That's right, the book sold out in about two days!

"Unfortunately, we have sold out because we were not anticipating people really buying it. But. But you can- They're doing a reprint so you can still buy it, you can buy the second printing but it'll take a few weeks"

"The Ellen Show" Season 15 Episode 122

He reassured everyone on "The Ellen Show" that they are printing new copies straight away so you can still pre-order them on amazon RIGHT NOW! Which is good, because I missed out on the first batch and...

As of today, March 21, “A Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo” is amazon.com's number one "Hot New Release" ( with "Marlon Bundo: A Day in the Life of the Vice President" in fourth place ) and the 2nd "Best Seller of 2018: so far" ( right behind the controversial book by Michael Wolfe "Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House" while the Vice President's book has not yet placed in the top 100. ).

BUT WAIT! There's more!

ALL of the proceeds—I repeat, ALL of the proceeds—go to the The Trevor Project and AIDS United' charities.

"Before you even knew how successful it would be you made the terrible mistake of giving the money away. Because You thought it would be a few bucks here or there."

"Late Night with Seth Meyers" Season 05 Episode 46

That's right! All of the profits are going to charity!

This is a real life children's book that makes a powerful human rights statement and is—clearly—a labor of love by everyone who contributed to its creation:

Authored by "Marlon Bundo" and Jill Twiss, illustrated by E.G. Keller (who's art was animated for promotional purposes, BONUS!) and the audio book is narrated by—brace yourselves, I'm taking a deep breath—Jim Parsons, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Jeff Garlin, Ellie Kemper, John Lithgow, Jack McBrayer and the RuPaul!

If after reading ALL of the above doesn't provide sufficient reasons to buy this book (and/or to spread the word about this book), maybe this last one will seal the deal:

"This isn’t some adult book telling Mike Pence to go f**k himself, although, in buying it that’s exactly what you would be doing."

Visit betterbundobook.com to order a hardcover copy and/or audio book version today! I know I'm looking forward to receiving my copy. <3

Here's a complete transcript of the copy of the original video above ( seeing as a Canadian I won't have access to a 'legal' online clip for at least a month, if I'm lucky enough to get any access at all ).

March 18, 2018 ( Season 5 Episode 05):

"As it turns out, in a COMPLETE coincidence, we also wrote a book about Mike Pence’s Rabbit that has also been published. In fact, while his is out tomorrow ours is released right now.

Now, there are a few small differences between the two books. You’ll notice right away that our rabbit has a bowtie, so there’s that. Um. Also, our story is about Marlon Bundo falling in love with another boy rabbit because our Marlon Bundo is gay just like the real Marlon Bundo.

The point is you can actually buy this book starting right now at Amazon and at betterbundobook.com which should be easy enough to remember. Do you want the regular Bundo book or the better Bundo book? It’s at betterbundobook.com.

All of our proceeds from this are going to the Trevor Project which provides crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to the LGBT to use and AIDS United which works to aid the AIDS epidemic in the United States.

Those are two great reasons to buy this book. Another is that selling more books than Pence will probably really piss him off, so that’s three great reasons right there!

You can also buy an audio book at audible.com featuring Jim Parsons, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Jeff Garlin, Ellie Kemper, John Lithgow, Jack McBrayer, and RuPaul.

And let me be completely clear about this, this is actually a book for children. This is a real children’s book. This isn’t some adult book telling Mike Pence to go f**k himself, although, in buying it that’s exactly what you would be doing.

This is a sweet story about a Marlon Bundo falling in love."
