"Late Show 'Star Wars' Exclusive: Rey's Parents" @ 1:01
by the Late Show with Stephen Colbert
This is a list of celebrities, historical figures, & fictional characters in pop culture who are canonically, that is to say VERIFIED* members of marginalized minority groups (my primary focus being on LGBTQA+ representation, though I'll do my best to make note of representation of other marginalized groups).
I'm compiling this list because I believe representation matters.
So many people, myself included, struggle to find a proper reflection of ourselves in popular culture WHEN WE SHOULDN'T HAVE TO! Popular culture, whether we like it or not, is a mirror of our society & its values. While a lot of us have no problem finding themselves in the mirror, some of us find our reflections being constantly distorted in the most unflattering ways while others can't seem to find their reflections at all. How can someone find their place in today's world if they themselves can't be seen as being part of it?! Much less if everyone around them can't be bothered to include them in the picture.
Everyone should be able to enjoy fiction in ALL of its forms!
With that said, I hope everyone can enjoy the show. <3
ADAM LAMBERT (musician)
“I feel like everyone has an opinion of me, and I want a chance to say, ‘Well, do you want to hear how I really feel about all this?'”
This is a question easier posed than answered, because Lambert has a lot of thoughts on his newfound role as America’s new gay runner-up Idol, and many of them are somewhat contradictory. But there’s one point on which he is completely sure: “I’m proud of my sexuality,” he says. “I embrace it. It’s just another part of me.”

"Which you’d think would make me feel better. People enjoying my work seems like a nice ego boost? Nope, I dodged those bullets of hope like a pessimist pro! The appearances actually made all my impostor feelings even worse. I would sob before going out to meet people because I felt like such a fraud. I didn’t deserve their compliments. […]
In my warped state of mind, I had nothing new to offer my fans and I probably wouldn’t ever again. I deserved to be hated, not loved.
These were the worst days of my life.
In retrospect, crappy chemicals in my brain were working overtime, driving me to destroy myself…"
