PROJECT THESIS + Episode List
Project Thesis:
I have a theory: That Captain James Tiberius Kirk is grossly misrepresented by his reputation.
Thus I created this blog to write down and organize my personal observations as I rewatch Star Trek: The Original Series for evidence either supporting or disproving my theory.
Is Captain Kirk a shamless lothario because every woman he encounters, be they human or alien, become a glorious sexual conquest? Is he as he is represented outside of the show?
Or is Captain Kirk a progressive and respectful man?
Project Goals:
PRIMARY OBJECTIVE:
Tally the total amount of romantic relationships in which Captain James T. Kirk takes part throughout the entire run of Star Trek: the Original Series.
I will be making episode by episode observations using the following criteria:
-
Does the episode feature a love interest for Kirk?
YES or NO.
-
If YES, does KIRK have a romantic relationship with the love interest?
YES or NO.
-
If YES, when does the romantic relationship take place?
ON SCREEN, OFF SCREEN or BOTH.
-
If a romantic relationship for KIRK is featured in the episode, is it CONSENSUAL?
For KIRK and for the LOVE INTEREST.
ADDITIONAL OBJECTIVES:
-
Observe, record and tally all of the feminist moments.
-
Tally the total amount of 'red shirts'. Note how many actually wear red shirts.
-
Tally the total amount of times Sulu is the damsel in distress.
SPOILER, it's more than you'd expect.
SIDE OBJECTIVE (optional to reader):
I'm a spirk shipper, so I'm gonna ship! But if it's not your thing I totally understand. :)
-
Tally the total amount of times Spock addresses and/or refers to Kirk as 'JIM'.
-
Observe and record all 'SPIRK' moments.

Kirk commands a crew of 430 men and women aboard his starship, which can travel at speeds surpassing the speed of light.
